So, I’m back. My apologies for the absence- I was on what I’ve taken (with tounge firmly planted in cheek) to calling a ‘government sponsored writing retreat’ (sic: deployment). For operational security reasons, I won’t go into a lot of details, but it was just like going to the beach, if the beach didn't have water, the air was toxic, everyone hates you and instead of ice cream and cotton candy, they have guns. I can tell you we accomplished out mission, and my team did an incredible job in very trying circumstances, and and no one got hurt- although it was close a few times. It is one of the great privileges of my life to spend time alongside my fellow citizens in uniform- more on that later.
All that aside, I’m back and I’m going to start working on getting my writing back up to speed. To keep you all in the loop, Valkyrie III: Attrition is in the hands of the editors, and will be out later this year. The fourth Fae Wars novel set in the Southwest is in progress and is tentatively entitled ‘Desert Rebellion’. It is about a third written and flowing nicely- and it’s a lot of fun to boot. If you’ve ever wondered how the elves would fare against the Apaches, well- have I got a story for you.
I’m also taking the lead as creative director for the Far Wars for Cannon Publishing, and will be assuming more of a direct role as that series moves forward- It’s a fun world and there’s a lot of stories to be told. In fact, I might write a post outlining my vision for the universe later- a look under the hood sort of thing.
I’l also going to be dropping more of my short stories here, as well as some exclusive sneak peaks of my upcoming works, so stay tuned and share this page with anyone who likes fantasy, science fiction and the inevitable rants about random periods of history that no one seems to be interested in but me…Notable the Greek Dark Ages. I mean- how did an entire region composed of a half dozen major civilizations just crash all at once? Interconnected economic and cultural ties, probably contributed but….You know what? Separate post!
That’s all for now- but a lot more is coming later, so stick around. I’m glad to be back and looking forward to seeing your comments and thoughts- and share this substack to anyone you think might enjoy it!
